Sugar Land Sharks

Hello Sugar Land Sharks families!

My name is Wes Woodruff, and I am excited and honored to serve as the new Head Coach of the Sugar Land Sharks. I have been a teacher and coach for the past 24 years in Fort Bend ISD and Katy ISD, working with young athletes across several sports, including soccer and basketball.

I am currently the Head Swim Coach at Mayde Creek High School, and swimming has been an important part of my family’s life for the last 11 years. Watching my son swim through club, summer league, and high school has deepened my appreciation for the sport and the positive impact it can have on kids.

What excites me most about summer league swimming is the unique balance it offers—having fun, building skills, and competing in a positive, community-driven environment. I believe swimmers should enjoy their summer while also learning the value of effort, commitment, and working toward shared goals. My goal is to create a program where swimmers feel proud to be Sharks, enjoy coming to practice, and develop a lifelong love for the sport.

I am thrilled to begin this next chapter with the Sugar Land Sharks and look forward to showing kids how fun and exciting swimming can be while building a strong foundation for the team. I can’t wait to meet you and your swimmers in person and get started.

Hi Sharks families,

My name is Katie, and I am so excited to join the Sugar Land Sharks as your new Associate Head Coach. I am truly passionate about helping young swimmers grow—not just in skill, but in confidence—while making sure swimming stays fun, positive, and welcoming for every athlete.

Swimming has been a big part of my life for many years. I grew up swimming league from ages 8–18, continued swimming competitively through high school and college, and later transitioned into coaching at both the summer league and high school levels. I have had the privilege of coaching swimmers ages 4–18 and helping build programs from the ground up. Most importantly, I genuinely love working with kids and families and value clear communication and positive relationships.

I am incredibly excited to work alongside Coach Wes and the rest of the Sharks coaching staff, and I can’t wait to meet our swimmers and families this season. Let’s make it a great summer together!
