Meet 101
Please read through the following details for meet guidelines:
1. PLAN TO ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 3:30 PM for a HOME MEET and 4:00 PM for an AWAY MEET. The meet will officially begin at 5:00 PM. Swimmers should wear their suit and should bring goggles. When you arrive, all swimmers should go to their Age Group Tent. Age Group Parents will mark the swimmers with their event information. Note: Intrasquad Meet will start at 5:30 PM.
2. PLEASE DO NOT PUT SUNSCREEN ON SWIMMERS BEFORE THEY ARRIVE. The sharpies won’t write on top of sunscreen. Swimmers need to put sunscreen on AFTER being marked.
3. SWIMMERS SHOULD STAY IN THEIR AGE GROUP TENT THROUGHOUT THE MEET. The Age Group Parents must know where the swimmers are AT ALL TIMES!! If you want to take them to the Concession Stand or elsewhere, please “check them out” with the Age Group Parents.
4. EVERY SWIMMER RECEIVES A RIBBON FOR EVERY EVENT THEY SWIM. Even a disqualified swimmer receives a Participation Ribbon.
5. THE HALFWAY POINT IS AROUND EVENT 30 OR 40 - Home Team Determines this. This is when first shift volunteers are released, and second shift volunteers begin. Second shift volunteers must report on time to prevent meet delays.
6. MEETS TYPICALL LAST UNTIL 9:00 PM (or later). Most meets will have a Concession Stand to provide food and drinks at a reasonable cost. It’s a good idea to pack water and healthy snacks/sandwiches. Pack separately for each swimmer as they are to remain with their Age Group.
7. FEEL FREE TO BRING THINGS TO ENTERTAIN YOUR CHILD DURING THE MEET. Books, coloring books, and cards are all good ideas. Don’t bring anything valuable, or anything you don’t want to lose. LABEL EVERYTHING.
8. GATHER YOUR THINGS BEFORE IT GETS DARK. Once the sun goes down it is hard to find things in the dark. Please, help pick up trash and keep the area clean.
9. PARENTS MAY BRING LAWN CHAIRS TO SIT IN. Most pools do not have seating areas so parents will want to bring lawn chairs for the meets. We also recommend bringing a fan!
10. SWIMMERS MAY LEAVE AFTER THEIR LAST EVENT. Once your swimmer has completed all their assigned events, they can clean up their area and leave.
11. PER SHRSL BY-LAWS, NO ALCOHOL, SMOKING, PROFANITY OR VERBAL ABUSE IS ALLOWED AT SWIM MEETS. This is a zero tolerance policy and you will be immediately removed from the premises if policy is violated.
12. SWIMMERS / SIBLINGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN OR NEAR BABY POOLS! Some teams have a baby pool near the lap pool. No one is allowed in baby pools at anytime.
13. SWIMMERS MUST COMPLY WITH RESTRICTIONS OR REGULATIONS SPECIFIED BY THE HOME TEAM POOL. Each pool environment is different and there will be pool specific rules to keep everyone safe.
